Hi Linda
yeah, I love June Christy, too and have several LPs of hers...love that voice!Same with Carmen McRae,she really had a lot of soul in addition to swinging! Funny...I wanted to be an archaeologist too. Hey, you should check out the Afghanistan exhibit at the Asian Art Museum in SF...it's amazing. They have a short film that is a graphical rendition of a huge dig site that was an ancient city. I think the tomb exhibits came from that city/site. If I remember correctly, the site was bombed and completely destroyed.

Hi, Elaine, I met you at an eWomen Network event and again, I believe, at a BACN event -- both here in Marin. I am a jazz fanatic, and wish Marin had jazz venues as it evidently used to, back in the 1950s. Jazz divas? How about June Christy, who sang with the Stan Kenton band? I love her interpretations of songs. And I liked Lee Wiley. And saw Carmen McRae perform once, at the Pete Douglas Beach House at Half Moon Bay. I could go on. When I was about 12, I wanted to be an archaeologist by day and a jazz singer by night -- can you dig it? (Pun intended.)
